How to Break Bad Habits with Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis to Break Habits

We all have bad habits that we’d like to be able to control. Whether it’s biting your nails, chewing your hair or something more drastic like smoking or overeating, the behavioural cycle and mind’s reaction is very much the same in all cases. We can need help to break bad habits.

Regardless of your particular habit, or how deeply ingrained it is, hypnotherapy is a safe and effective treatment. My advanced hypnotherapy gives you an extra edge to kick your habit as we all know how hard it can be to break such an engrained cycle alone. Our minds are unbelievably powerful and can sometimes become our own worst enemy.

Breaking Bad Habits

As a starting point there are a few tips I can give you that might help you be more mindful of your behaviour and set you off on the right track.

Change Your Thinking

Before you can break any kind of habit the desire to change needs to be there. If you are reading this it is likely you have passed this phase but it’s important to recall regularly your commitment to the change and the reasons why it is important to you.

Become mindful of your behaviour surrounding the habit. Is there something in particular that sets you off such as boredom or stress? Is there something that effectively stops it? What kind of reward do you get, or perceive that you get, from the habit?

Make a plan to combat the habit and visualise success. It’s usually best to do this stage in small parts. Can you go for one hour without biting your nails? Half an hour? Reward yourself when you meet your targets.

Break Bad Habits by Changing Behaviour

Sometimes you have to take practical action to break an ingrained behaviour cycle. Can you change your environment? Perhaps sit in a different chair to eat or work at a new desk. If possible, create barriers against the habit and create a network of support around you.

Many people maintain success by finding a placeholder for their unwanted behaviour. Replace smoking with exercise for example or chewing hair with chewing gum. This can be a good initial step but it’s important not to replace one habit with another.

Be patient and be kind to yourself. Remember once something becomes a habit it’s very hard to stop so you may need outside help. It’s often difficult alone but with a qualified hypnotherapist you can get to the bottom of this destructive behaviour, understand the cause and initiate quick and effective changes.

Hypnotherapy to Break Bad Habits

The focused concentration and relaxation that occurs during hypnosis make you very mindful of your actions. Your bad habit probably happens subconsciously – how many times have you suddenly realised you’ve been biting your nails for the last few minutes without realising?

We can use a variety of techniques depending on your unique situation to help reverse the behaviours that have been learnt and replace them with powerful and positive affirmations.

We can achieve change very quickly with hypnosis. Please do contact me to discover more about how I can help you.
