Jackie – Property Developer – Ae 36
* In my line of work, it doesn’t help to have a phobia of heights, especially when renovating a building, which needs me to climb scaffolding. I have always had a fear of heights ever since I was small, but I managed to overcome it when I needed to.
The problem was that for some reason, it was getting worse as I got older and I couldn’t work out why. It was really difficult and sometimes awkward to tell my on site contractors that I couldn’t look at the roof line or some other part of the renovation just because it was in an elevated position.
It came to head early last year, when out with a friend, I couldn’t even get myself onto the London Eye, because I was literally scared stiff at the thought of being up that high. It was then that I felt I had to do something about it, so I called a friend of mine who had previously seen a hypnotherapist for a stress problem.
She was called Alix Needham. I called Alix, and we arranged a consultation. When I arrived I instantly felt at ease with Alix, she just seemed to know what to say. After only a couple of sessions, I have overcome my height phobia and feel like a weight has been lifted from me.
Alix’s Comments on Help for Height Phobia
Height phobias can develop when a person has an uncomfortable or frightening experience which imprints on their unconscious mind. It often begins in childhood and then can worsen later in life.
During our hypnosis session Jackie related how her height phobia had begun when she was ten years old. Her parents took her to Paris as a birthday treat. On her actual birthday her parents had planned a surprise visit to the Eiffel tower.
Jackie started to feel unwell before they got there and by the time they came out of the lift and looked at the view she felt sick and dizzy. She felt disorientated and couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel. Her father made matters worse as he was not very sympathetic and blamed her for spoiling everyone’s day.
This painful memory had got stuck in Jackie’s mind causing a fear of heights. Once she was able to speak about this incident her anxiety lessened and her fear of heights disappeared.
