One of the inherent reasons has been the proliferation of low cost alcoholic beverages that simulate sweet pop style drinks, termed “Alco-pops” which has further fuelled this problem. The term “binge drinking” originates from the process itself, which literally means to have excessive amounts of alcohol over a short period of time. The inherent health problems associated with this form of alcohol abuse can be significant.
