How Much Alcohol Is Too Much Alcohol?

Alcohol has become a scourge of modern day living for many of us. Freely available now in a multitude of locations, and at increasingly cheaper prices, its ease of availability has created problems within society. As with many things, a small amount can be fine, but how much alcohol is too much alcohol?

Effects of Alcohol

Its effects on the individual vary dependent upon a variety of factors, such as the size of the person and their relative tolerance of alcohol. However, its effects in the individual in terms of their work, health and emotional wellbeing are all too similar.

The question “How much Alcohol is too much Alcohol ?” is one that is asked frequently and in reality a complex question. Perhaps the best way to look at it would be to ask yourself “What effect is my drinking having on me and those around me?”. It is often family and friends who notice a marked change in personality and outward appearance when someone they care about has drunk too much. In addition, the effects on their physical health are often not apparent which can make matters worse.

Real Life Example of Alcohol Issues

(Names have been changed)

Nigel is an IT consultant, who is self employed. As with many who are self employed, the onus on income falls on them and as such the stress and anxiety associated with it. Nigel’s drinking started as many do, with the occasional social drink out with friends, which then started to become more and more frequent. Longer hours working and the arrival of a new baby, all compounded his stress, and his alcohol intake started to increase as he felt it was a means of escape and relaxation.

Before he knew it, he was drinking every night and going to bed drunk. His relationship with his wife deteriorated as the months passed by, as she felt he was becoming more and more distant. This all culminated in a standoff with his wife, who demanded a change otherwise she would leave him. At this point, Nigel made an appointment to gain help for his drinking using Hypnotherapy.

What makes this particular case interesting is that it demonstrates almost every typical element of where alcohol has become a problem.

In this type of scenario, it is painfully obvious that too much alcohol is the symptom, and what we need to do is find why Nigel feels the need to drink to excess.

Finding Answers

So to answer the question, “How do I know when too much alcohol is too much alcohol?” the answer lies in you. Ask yourself:

  • Why do you drink?
  • Is my drinking having an effect on others?
  • Have I changed since drinking?
  • Am I in control of my drinking?

The chances are that if you’re asking yourself these questions, you are probably drinking too much and need help, which is where hypnotherapy comes in.

Hypnotherapy for Alcohol Issues

Hypnotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for those with a drinking problem. This is because drinking to excess is usually only a symptom, and we need to find out why you are drinking in the first place. Often the answer lies deep within your psyche, and with hypnotherapy we can uncover this root cause, and interrupt old drinking patterns permanently.
